First foray into vascular surgery research
October 2019 – Vascular surgery is a technically demanding specialty focused on saving lives and limbs. To better understand teamwork and clinical skill in this area, our collaborators in Ghent, Belgium are utilizing the OR BlackBox © – making this the first comprehensive endovascular recording site internationally. This research initiative is being led by Dr. Isabelle Van Herzeele and Dr. Bart Doyen in Belgium, in collaboration with ICSS team member Dr. Lauren Gordon. Together they aim to better understand endovascular performance and how surgical teams can work together to create a safer surgical environment.

February 2019 – ICSS has launched a process to engage our community in developing our first strategic plan. The process will include engagement of the ICSS team, St. Michael’s Hospital leadership, and key partners and collaborators from across our extended research network. ICSS’ 2019-2022 Strategic Plan – Excellence Through Insight – will be launched in November.
